Susan Houde-Walter, Ph.D.

Dr. Houde-Walter is CEO and Chairman of the Board at LaserMax, Inc. She co-founded LaserMax in 1989. She became Chief Executive Officer of LaserMax in 2002 and successfully shifted the Company’s focus from semiconductor/telecom OEM to the laser aiming market for law enforcement and homeland security to maintain steady growth and profitability. Susan invented thermal laser markers based on quantum cascade laser technology, leading to a new line of business for the Company.     

Prior to joining LaserMax in her capacity as CEO, Susan served as a tenured Professor of Optics at the University of Rochester. She was elected to the Board of Directors and later elected President of the Optical Society of America, an international association of seventeen thousand optical physicists and engineers, including thirty-three Nobel Laureates. Susan served on the U.S. Army Science Board for eight years. She began her service on the U.S. Air Force Science Advisory Board in 2012. She lectures as adjunct faculty at the College of Optical Science, University of Arizona, and is Fellow of both the Optical Society of America and the American Ceramic Society.
